Federal banks are once again playing for high stakes?

RatingsFederal banks are once again playing for high stakes?29/03/2012In the fourth quarter of 2011, federal banking trio unexpectedly sharply increased its assets. However, some banks at the end of the year have chosen a more cautious policy and reduced the rate of increase of assets. These and other trends evident in the new rating of Tatarstan credit institutions in terms of assets, prepared TatSenter.ru.
A new wave of growth in banking
In 2011, the bankers seem to believe in themselves the impossibility of a second wave of crisis. Instead, the past year has brought a new wave of growth in the banking sector. Growth - the most pre-crisis: the total assets of credit institutions operating in the Republic of Tatarstan increased by 22%.

As already noted TatSenter.ru in rating banks on assets for the nine months of 2011, in the first three quarters of growth rates were in the lead banks of Tatarstan. But at the end of the year "the feds" suddenly jerked off the bat.
Federal "bird-troika"
The federal credit institutions in general were so would the entire fourth quarter 2011 in the wake of Tatarstan bank holder, if it were not for leaders: Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank. This "bird-troika" of the largest banks in the country since October last suddenly ran "full speed", building up assets. VTB just over three months increased its assets by 57% (growth - more than 8 billion rubles), and Gazprombank - more than 2-fold (increase - almost 5 billion). Savings Rates can not be called a record, but in absolute terms, it also showed an increase in assets Their maximum (9 billion) for a group of federal banks.

Such a leap in such a short period of time could be explained by the major credit for Tatarstan's industrial giants. Representatives of federal banks have repeatedly said that the banks were again trust the big borrowers from Tatarstan, which ceased to operate in a crisis because of defaults and delinquencies. However, if the increase in the assets of the Savings Bank in the fourth quarter was parallel to the increase in the loan portfolio, the same can be said about the VTB and Gazprombank. Over the last three months of their loan portfolios grew not so much as assets: 4.5% (growth - 0,6 billion) and 30.5% respectively (1.1 billion rubles). And if you look at the annual dynamics of the asset, then VTB jerk at the end of 2011 compensated for the failure of the crisis.

Racing in the assets of the largest state-owned banks may be due to seasonality in their corporate clients. For example, at the end of the year from federal banks to settle large balances on current accounts or deposits of large enterprises. The banks may be used for posting are not loans, and some low-yield instruments, such as deposits of the Central Bank.
Who "hit the brakes"?
The rest of the first three quarters of trends noted in the ranking of banks by assets for the nine months of 2011 as a whole survived to the end of the year. Those changes, which can now be seen, appeared on the background of the fact that some banks have slowed down the rate of increase of assets. In particular, despite the growth in assets during the first three quarters of 2011, over recent months to reduce went Akibank, Devon-Credit, Agricultural Bank, Spurt Bank and others. What caused such a cautious behavior at the end of the year: the expectation of a crisis or a desire to "play the numbers" before the annual report, TatCenter.ru try to reflect in the ratings on the next banking business portal.
